CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has ordered a thorough investigation into a jewelry heist that took place on August 2.
The mayor has even instructed the city police to be on high alert and conduct a follow-up investigation.
"We are deeply saddened by this major crime," said Uy adding that it signifies the need for increased efforts in ensuring the safety and tranquility of the city.
Mayor Uy, recognizing the seriousness of the crime, has directed Acting City Police Director Col. Salvador Radam to conduct a detailed investigation and step up police monitoring.
After the briefing, Radam on Wednesday afternoon, he (Radam) has been consistently keeping the mayor informed about the investigation's progress.
According to Radam, the robbery resulted in the theft of jewelry and gadgets valued at approximately P9 million, and an employee of Gold Mega Jewelry Store on JR Borja Street was injured.
Radam clarified that this incident is not connected to any plot aimed at disrupting the peace and order of Cagayan de Oro City during the month-long Higalaay Festival.
He revealed that the ongoing investigation indicates personal gain as the primary motive behind the crime.

During a meeting on Thursday with retired General City Councilor Romeo Calizo, chairperson of the public safety committee, Uy called for a review of the City Ordinance mandating the installation of CCTV security cameras in commercial establishments.
The mayor has also called for a review of the ordinance requiring the installation of CCTV cameras in businesses and suggested including penalties for non-compliance.
Furthermore, the mayor urged residents to cooperate with the security measures implemented throughout the city and report any disturbances or illegal activities to the authorities.
"I appeal to the community to continue supporting our local police and to cooperate with the security measures that are being implemented," emphasized Mayor Uy.
