THE faces of 15 individuals struggling with walking or having a certain illness lit up with immense joy as they received free wheelchairs personally handed over by Mayor Klarex Uy during People's Day, held on Wednesday at the city hall quadrangle.
It has become a tradition for Mayor Klarex to provide free wheelchairs during People's Day for the underprivileged residents of the city who cannot afford such equipment due to poverty and life's hardships, according to City Mayor's Office Chief of Staff Shiela Lumbatan.
"This act of kindness brings hope and relief to those in need," said Lumbatan.
Lumbatan said the recipients, filled with gratitude, expressed their deep appreciation for the mayor's generosity.
These wheelchairs will greatly improve their mobility and make their daily lives more manageable, according to Lumbatan.
She said Mayor Klarex, along with his dedicated team, continues to prioritize the welfare of the less fortunate members of the community.
Through initiatives like providing free wheelchairs, they aim to uplift the lives of those facing physical challenges and create a more inclusive and compassionate society, she said.
The distribution of wheelchairs during People's Day serves as a reminder that no one should be left behind or deprived of essential resources.
"It reflects the mayor's commitment to ensuring equal opportunities and a better quality of life for all residents of Cagayan de Oro City," Lumbatan added.
