IN a significant development for the educational landscape of Cagayan de Oro City, Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy appointed Dr. Jestoni Babia as the interim president of the newly established City College. The announcement was made by Sheila Lumbatan, the Chief of Staff of the City Mayor's office.
Lumbatan said under Executive Order 232 series of 2023, Dr. Babia's appointment as the head of City College is expected to contribute immensely to its further development in terms of academic standards and culture.
"This move highlights Mayor Klarex's commitment to enhancing the quality of education in the city," said Lumbatan.
Mayor Uy, according to Lumbatan expressed his confidence in Dr. Babia's abilities and acknowledged his expertise in the field of education.
The selection of Dr. Babia as the interim president is a testament to his knowledge and experience in the education sector, she said.
In addition to this appointment, preparations are underway to facilitate the offering of four-year courses at City College.
The necessary paperwork is being processed to ensure that the college can provide a comprehensive range of programs to meet the needs of students seeking higher education opportunities.
It is worth noting that City College has already made a significant impact through its vocational courses, Lumbatan stressed.
Numerous individuals have completed their training in courses such as Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, Housekeeping, Shielded Metal Arc and Welding, Barangay Health System, and Carpentry.
"These vocational programs have equipped many individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in their respective careers," said Lumbatan.
She added that the establishment of City College under the leadership of Babia and the support of Mayor Uy signifies a progressive step towards providing accessible and quality education to the residents of Cagayan de Oro City.
Lumbatan said the residents can look forward to the continued growth and expansion of the college as it aims to empower more individuals through education and foster a brighter future for the community.
