CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the five victims of the fire that occurred on the night of October 10 in Lower Sumpong, Barangay Indahag.
Upon visiting the Bollozos Memorial Homes, where the victims' bodies were taken, the mayor assures that the city government will provide support, including free burial services at the City Memorial Park, as well as cremation and interment.
Shiela Lumbatan, the City Mayor's Office Chief of Staff, has stated that in addition to these services, Mayor Uy has also donated financial assistance to the affected families to help alleviate the suffering caused by the tragic incident.
"The mayor understands the pain and hardship they are going through and aims to provide them with any necessary support during this difficult time," said Lumbatan.
Among the victims were a married couple who tied the knot during the "Kasalan ng Bayan" or Mass Wedding held on June 24 in Brgy. Nazareth.
They were accompanied by their two children and other family members during the celebration.
This news adds to the community's sorrow as they mourn the loss of promising lives cut short by the devastating fire, according to Lumbatan.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the authorities, with ongoing efforts to determine its origin and prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Mayor Uy, as quoted by Lumbatan, emphasizes the importance of fire safety and urges residents to prioritize preventive measures to protect their homes and loved ones.
According to Uy, the local government, in coordination with relevant agencies, will continue to provide assistance and support to the affected families as they rebuild their lives.
Mayor Uy calls on the community to come together and extend a helping hand to those in need, demonstrating the unity and resilience that characterizes the people of Lower Sumpong and Barangay Indahag in times of adversity.
