CHIEF of Staff to the City Mayor, Shiela Lumbatan, early last week disclosed that most of the illegal settler families (ISFs) residing near the river of Isla Delta have been successfully relocated to temporary housing.
She said this massive clearing operation was spearheaded by the city's Task Group Demolition under the leadership of lawyer Jose Edgardo Uy.
In light of this Lumbatan even said Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy expressed his gratitude to lawyer Uy and the members of the Task Group Demolition for the successful execution of the clearing operation.
"This marks a significant milestone in the city's effort to manage illegal settlements and provide better living conditions to the affected families," said Lumbatan.
Lumbatan said lawyer Uy mentioned that the greatest challenge now that Isla Delta has been cleared is to ensure that the relocated families do not return to the area or that new settlers do not occupy the space.
"The city is committed to upholding the integrity of the cleared area, which holds immense ecological importance," Uy said.
In addition, Lumbatan said, the Task Group Demolition had previously announced that once Isla Delta is cleared, the next focus of their operation would be to address the issue of billboards that clutter the cityscape.
"This step is part of the city's broader plan to better manage its public spaces," said Lumbatan.
In line with this, lawyer Uy hopes that the assigned guards and the police personnel will intensify their vigilance.
He said they are tasked with preventing any vehicles carrying materials that could potentially be used for setting up shanties from entering the area.
This news marks a significant step forward in the city's ongoing efforts to manage illegal settlements, preserve the environment, and ensure better living conditions for its citizens, according to Lumbatan.
She said that the city authorities are dedicated to monitoring the area and preventing any undue occupation, further demonstrating their commitment to maintaining public order and safeguarding the interests of their citizens.
