Aguirre Digos City Bureau Chief DIGOS City — The Department of Public Works and Higways (DPWH) engineering district took a whipping from the provincial board members over the slow construction of road projects in Davao del Sur. In his privilege speech during their regular session, Board Member Lanier Cadungog condemned the lack of systematic road construction procedures and the never ending works on the same project, specifically within the national highway in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. Cadungog passed a resolution requesting DPWH officials to fast track all the infrastructure projects within the Digos City to Davao City national highways. Motorists and commuters, as well have raised concern over the never-ending road repairs in Sta. Cruz national highway where travel time from Digos City to Davao City has almost doubled due to the construction that has been going on for years. Even netizens have been blaming the DPWH for its failure to hasten the completion of the road projects including the bridges where the contactors seemingly undermining the safety of passing motorists. The bridge near the Sta. Cruz public market where a huge pothole noticiably appeared was plugged by an unstable metal plate posing eminent danger to motorists. Cadungog in his recent facebook post has told DPWH officials to deal with its contractors by constantly monitoring the status of the project. Some netizens took notice that the cycle of breaking the just finished road to reconstruct a new road has been going on for several years making them anxious putting the blame on the DPWH for its lack of planning a lasting national highway road.
