IN Cagayan De Oro City, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is putting a spotlight on sustainable consumption for this year's Consumer Welfare Month.
The celebration is a platform used by the DTI to advocate for responsible consumer practices and to push for the adoption of sustainable consumption.
The DTI in Misamis Oriental, headed by Provincial Director Almer Masillones, kicked off a campaign in 2018 focusing on sustainable consumption and production.
The aim of this campaign was to influence consumer behavior towards more sustainable choices.

Since the inception of this campaign, the Consumer Welfare Month celebration has continuously focused on themes of sustainable consumption and responsible consumerism.
This year, the theme for the celebration is "GenS: Generation Sustainable."
This theme is chosen to emphasize the significance of responsible consumption and the adoption of sustainable consumer practices.
It serves as a reminder to consumers everywhere that their buying choices can have a major impact on the environment and the world.
The celebration also highlights the growing number of consumers who are becoming increasingly conscious of their consumption habits.
More people are making a shift towards sustainability-oriented consumption, making choices that are more environmentally friendly and ethically sound.
Masillones noted that consumers are becoming more conscious in their purchasing decisions.
They are now considering sustainability when buying clothes and footwear, often opting for secondhand clothes or items from brands that prioritize ethical practices.
Consumers are also leaning towards repairing items instead of replacing them with new ones.
According to a survey, more than half (53%) of consumers have repaired an item instead of replacing it with a new one.
Additionally, 40% have purchased secondhand or refurbished goods, and 38% have paid a premium for more durable or longer-lasting products.
These statistics show an encouraging trend towards more sustainable consumption.
In response to this trend, the DTI MisOr is ramping up its advocacy efforts to encourage even more consumers to make sustainable choices.
Masillones announced that they will host a Forum on Generation Sustainable on October 26.
The forum will provide information on various ways to practice sustainable consumption and how each individual can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Ambisyon Natin 2040.
