CAGAYAN de Oro re-elected 2nd District City Councilor Yevonna Yacine ‘Yvy’ Emano took her oath of office on June 9 before Gusa Barangay Chairman Marlo Tabac during the barangay’s weekly flag-raising ceremony.
Emano became emotional during her speech, describing her May 12 election victory as bittersweet.
“It’s very bitter-sweet. Sweet siya kay makapadayon ko sa atong kausa, sa atong tinguha; a bit bitter kay atong kauban, wala,” she said.
Emano, who emerged as the top councilor based on the number of votes received, said she prays constantly for courage, wisdom, and strength to be a good — if not better — leader. She also reflected on how God answers prayers in different ways.
She credited her victory not solely to herself but also to her late father, former Mayor Vicente ‘Dongkoy’ Emano, whom she said molded her into the public servant she is today.
“He raised us for a cause and for a purpose,” she said.
Overcome with emotion, Emano expressed gratitude to her supporters and emphasized the values of gratitude and humility, assuring them of her wholehearted service.
Meanwhile, Barangay Chairman Tabac said Emano’s oath-taking in Gusa marked a shift in the barangay’s political atmosphere.
“Niining panahona, nabag-o ang color sa Barangay Gusa,” he said.
Tabac was recently ousted as Liga ng mga Barangay president by his fellow members due to a reported lack of trust and confidence.
He credited Gusa’s purok presidents for supporting Emano’s oath-taking ceremony.
He also recalled how he urged his constituents to show respect during the election period, not expecting his removal by 64 fellow barangay chairpersons.
Emano said she chose Gusa for her oath because “it is in the second commandment to love your neighbor as you love yourself,” adding that Gusa is her home and always will be.
“Inyong gipakita inyong paghigugma ug pagsalig kanako sa inyong pagbitbit sa ako sa kalampusan atong milabay’ng eleksyon. You made me number one,” she said in gratitude to her supporters.
Emano was joined by her mother, Aloma Emano; Misamis Oriental Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano; Tagoloan Mayor Nadya Emano; and other members of the Padayon Pilipino party.
