I’VE reached that age. No matter what time I sleep, I can still wake up at or before 5 am. If I sleep at 3 am, that’s a two-hour sleep. If at 2 am, that’s three hours. If 1 am, four hours. On some days, it’s 6 am.

So, I have to calculate backwards if I want the recommended eight-hour sleep. That means I have to sleep at 9 pm. Oh. I can do that. Dinner at 4:30 pm, slow down by 8 pm, meaning, no writing, no working, just reading books, and listening to YouTube videos of Jordan Peterson and the carnivore diet.

Let’s see if Shayne Traviss’s “Your Vivid Life” can make me sleep earlier than usual. That’s the book I’m currently reading.

Perhaps I should read Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone with the Wind.” 960 pages. Whew. Who won’t fall asleep while reading that? Or how about a book on world history, since History as a school subject always made me sleepy.

Actually, I’m reading three other books aside from “Your Vivid Life.” Hopping from one book to another so I won’t get bored. There’s one problem with this, though — hopping from one book to another means hopping from one topic to another, resulting to confusion.

But what I expected to be confusing is the merry-go-round of hopping from one government office to another, only to realize that it’s not confusing at all since each government office has its own responsibility. It’s like you don’t go to Jollibee and McDonald’s for a donut. Or to Dunkin’ for a burger. Each fast food resto has its own specialty.

And uptown Cagayan de Oro will soon have a drive-thru Dunkin’. And there’s the high-carb dieter saying, Yay! As the trying-so-hard-to-be-carnivore dieter says, Ayay.

That Dunkin’ is right beside the uptown McDo drive-thru at Masterson Avenue. I gotta feeling the distance between the two will result to a drive-thru client ordering a burger at Dunkin’ and a donut at McDo. Will that be me?

Once Dunkin’ opens, there will be six drive-thru food outlets in uptown CDO: Starbucks, Chow King, Jollibee, McDo, Dunkin’, and KFC. In that order if you’re driving from SM Northwing to Lumbia. Yum!

One more phenomenon in the uptown area: floods. Which confuses the Cagayanon. It’s uptown, water is supposed to flow to the downtown area. So, why the floods?

On Tuesday, we were having dinner at a downtown resto when it started raining cows and carabaos. Unaware about the floods that the rain was causing, I savored each bite of my first and only meal for the day after traveling out of town for business matters, which gave us no time for breakfast and lunch. I’m already used to OMAD — one meal a day — thanks to the low-carb diet. I tend to forget that other people are used to having three meals a day, so, it was an instant intermittent fasting for my travel companions.

It was only when my sis-in-law checked out her phone messages and saw the video of a hospital that was starting to get flooded that we realized how bad the rainy situation was.

But floods are no longer breaking news in the city. The uptowner who’s downtown will then find ways to go home through roads that have less traffic and less floods. An uptowner friend of mine has made it a habit to leave downtown at 3 pm, rain or shine, to beat the rush hour traffic. With that sked, it will be easier to slow down by 8 pm, and to sleep at 9 pm.
