A newly completed four-storey school building at Bulua National High School is expected to help reduce overcrowding and improve classroom learning, but parents and teachers will ultimately judge its success by whether it leads to smaller class sizes and better learning conditions for students.
City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy said the project is intended to lower the student-to-classroom ratio, stressing that additional classrooms are needed to decongest schools where overcrowding often results in poor learning experiences.
“New classrooms are needed to reduce congestion. When classrooms are overcrowded, students suffer from a poor learning environment,” Uy said.
The building, which was formally turned over today, February 10, has 16 classrooms across four floors.
According to City Information Office head Jade Adeser, each classroom is initially equipped with 40 student chairs, with capacity that can be increased to around 50 students per room if needed.
Adeser said the facility is designed for modern, technology-driven instruction.
“These are smart classrooms, not the traditional ones," said Adeser adding that each classroom is equipped with a PC, LED TV, projector, comfort room, and speakers with microphone.
For students, the impact is already being felt. Carla, a first-year high school student at Bulua National High School, said the improved facilities have made learning more engaging.
“Mas ganahan na ko mo-eskwela kay kumpleto naman ang mga rooms. Dali na matunan ang mga lectures,” she said.
The fully furnished facility also includes individual comfort rooms on every floor and fire safety systems, such as alarms, sprinklers, smoke detectors, and fire hydrants.
Bulua National High School serves students from western Cagayan de Oro and nearby communities, and school officials said the additional classrooms are expected to help manage growing enrollment.
For parents and students, the success of the project will ultimately be measured not by the turnover ceremony, but by whether it consistently delivers less crowded classrooms, better learning experiences, and improved outcomes over time.
