ONE of the last memories I have with my dear departed mother was when I brought them to a resort/theme park or whatever you call it in the boundary of Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City, and Libona, Bukidnon.

The place has a very nice view of Macajalar Bay, and downtown and uptown Cagayan de Oro.

But what awed me more was the development of at least three hills, small mountains – you can call it. One developed with restos and snack bars. The other developed with roads and showcase areas of concrete animals. A corner reserved for live exotic animals like tigers and several birds. A hanging bridge connects the two small mountains. On the third hill were giant Transformers characters, with Bumblebee, among the most prominent.

My impression: What money can do!

A popular candidate’s legacy has been presented in figures. One telling figure in that campaign card was the claim of this politician of bringing in P2.9 billion yearly infra projects. The campaign material did not specify when. But we know, he was congressman of the 1st district of Misamis Oriental for nine years, making it a whooping P26.1 billion in infrastructure projects in his congressional district.
That is huge.

At P15 million per kilometer of concrete road, P26.1 billion is 1,740 kilometers. If you drive from Cagayan de Oro to Metro Manila, you drove around 1,300 kilometers.

At 35,000 per square meter of vertical structure or building, P26.1 billion is 745,714.29 square meters or 74.57 -hectares of floor space. At 40 square meters per classroom, that is 18,643 classrooms. At 1-hectare per public market, that is around 75 facilities for local economic enterprises.

When we apply simple arithmetic to figures, we will be able to ask why, and when it is referred to as a thing, we ask what and where?

Can we then be enlightened on the so-called legacy, among his claimed legacies actually, of former Misamis Oriental 1st district congressman Pedro M. Unabia claimed he brought in P2.9 billion worth of projects annually when he was a congressman.

If he did in fact accomplish a lot, maybe his political minions take these to heart and show these to the people rather than engage in vicious trolling, spreading hate and falsities in social media.
