BOTH aiming for unity, host Misamis Oriental province and Cagayan de Oro City sealed their partnership with the opening of the annually-held Kuyamis Festival now integrated with a major sports activity this morning at the Misamis Oriental Integrated Sports Complex (Moisc) in Cagayan de Oro City.
“Get ready for the most epic sporting event in the Province of Misamis Oriental ―the Paglaum Misor Rise CDO Cup 2023!
This Sporting Event will be participated by local government employees of all Cities and Municipalities of Misamis Oriental including Cagayan De Oro City in celebration of the 10th Kuyamis Festival,” both Misamis Oriental Governor Peter M. Unabia and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando A. Uy posted this message on their respective Facebook pages.
For the first time since Unabia was seated as governor, the Provincial Capitol’s flag-raising ceremony was held at the Sports Complex, formerly known as Don Gregorio Pelaez Sports Center, in time of the Paglaum MisOr Rise-CDO Cup opening that serves as a major sports highlight of Misamis Oriental’s 93rd Founding Anniversary and 10th Kuyamis Festival which is famous for its pageantry.
“There’s always a joy in unity. Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro working for the first time,” said Unabia during his opening remarks.
“In promoting unity through sports, tourism, and agri-business, there will be easy access towards development that will redound to the people in the locality,” added Board Member Gerardo Sabal III, who crafted the province’s six-year in the making Comprehensive Sports Program, that had been fully-implemented starting late last year.
City sports coordinator Romarey Gorro told Gold Star Daily that Mayor Uy is very supportive of the province’s call for unity by participating in the Paglaum Cup’s different sports events, even pitching in a substantial amount to the tune of P1.5 million to ensure its success.
“The city and the province now have each other’s back. We started helping each other during our successful participation in the recently-held Batang Pinoy National Championships in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur,” Gorro said.
Already, Provincial Sports Administrator John Venice Lad Waga sent a memorandum to all Capitol department heads for them to observe skeletal working arrangements so that their personnel could assist in the conduct of the week-long competition.
After the Kuyamis pageantry’s swimsuit competition in late December and Paglaum Cup’s opening parade on Monday afternoon, events to be contested starting Tuesday, January 10, including volleyball, lawn tennis, badminton, chess, table tennis, ‘laro ng lahi’ mixed team event, and dance challenge.
Battle of the bands, cheer dance contests, and muse TikTok challenge will also spice up the festivity, as stipulated in the Paglaum MisOr Rise-CDO Cup’s program of activities.
