WELL, it’s not over yet.
The long-running volleyball competition, which will decide the overall champion of the ongoing 1st Paglaum MisOr-Rise CDO Cup, will resume on Thursday, January 26 in the municipality of Libertad, Misamis Oriental.
“Thrilling kaayo kay gamay ra ang labaw sa Gingoog over host Provincial Capitol sa overall standing. So, kini g’yong volleyball ang deciding factor,” said veteran Capitol sports insider coach Inting Seriña Tan-gan.
While the Capitol team of Governor Peter ‘Sr Pedro’ Unabia won the Paglaum Cup’s lawn tennis competition and finished a strong second in chess, the Gingoognons were always in a fighting chance, snaring a couple of second places in badminton (dominated by Salay) and the battle of the bands and getting precious points in some other events.
Guest Cagayan de Oro bagged the championships in chess, table tennis, and the battle of the bands but could not win the overall supremacy as agreed earlier by the organizers and all participating local governments as stipulated in the inter-local government sportsfest guidelines.
For the top podium finish, it’s going to be a daunting task for the host squad in the remaining battle across the nets as Mayor Erick G. Cañosa’s volleybelles were on a hot streak.
“Kusog ang Gingoog team sa women’s volleyball parehas sa amo wala sab silay pildi. Sila among gi-expect sa final ugaling makalahos ‘mi,” Bambam Daba of the Cagayan de Oro spikers told Gold Star Daily.
Tournament director Alex Adeva said all participating local governments (Gitagum, Libertad, Laguindingan, Initao, Naawan, El Salvador City, Initao, Cagayan de Oro Gold, Naawan, Laguindingan, Tagoloan, Manticao, Alubijid, Jasaan, and Manticao) have confirmed their men and women teams’ presence when Libertad plays host to the volleyball games on Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm either in a covered court or at its municipal plaza.
A massive turn-out can also be expected when hostilities shift on Friday to Gingoog with the participation of Binuangan, Salay, Balingoan, Kinoguitan, Talisayan, Lagonglong, Magsaysay, CDO Green, Provincial Capitol, Sugbongcogon, and Medina.
“Walay team nga ma-default basta adunay valid reason. We will be monitoring and evaluating nga fair and square gyod ang pagpadagan sa atong Paglaum Cup volleyball tourney,” provincial sports coordinator Francis Sean Condeza told Gold Star Daily.
