By LITO RULONA Correspondent VICE Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy on Monday directed Councilor Zaldy Ocon to refrain from conducting more committee hearings on Limketkai and Sons Inc.’s request to open a casino in the city. Uy also asked Ocon to submit all documents pertaining to the proposed casino to his office. The vice mayor said the question on whether or not to endorse the Limketkai request would be decided by the city council as a committee of the whole. He said all arguments would be heard by all the members of the local legislature. “We have to address the issue... by all of us. Honestly, I have no knowledge of the request. I don’t think that other regular members also know it. All members of the city council should have copies of the request for them to study,” Uy said. Councilor Edna Dahino agreed, saying the matter is so sensitive it needs the knowledge and expertise of all the councilors. Uy said he would schedule public meetings that would involve all members of the city council. He said the meetings could be conducted in the barangays as suggested by Councilor Enrico Salcedo. Meanwhile, Councilor George Goking said he was informed that the policy of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor), in its amended charter, is that any casino can only be opened after consultations with religious groups and other sectors. Goking said the city council should ask Pagcor to furnish it with a copy of its amended charter.
