TWO of the three suspects in the rape and slaying of an eight-year-old girl in a city barangay are now in custody, while another remains at large.
City Mayor Frederick Siao said yesterday that a combined P200,000 reward from him and Senator Raffy Tulfo significantly aided in solving the case.
The eight-year-old girl, a resident of Purok 13, Barangay Buru-un, had been missing since June 5. She had asked her parents for permission to visit her godfather nearby but did not return home.
Authorities later learned that after her visit, she and a friend decided to go swimming in a nearby creek.
After their swim, they encountered three men who reportedly showed them a large sum of money to entice them to come along.
The friend, who provided information to the police, stated she decided not to go with the men, but the victim did.
The girl’s body was found near a rock on June 9 in an advanced state of decomposition, with parts of her clothing torn.
The victim’s family received the reward promised by Senator Tulfo. Mayor Siao, however, stated that his portion of the reward would be placed in a trust fund for the other girl, who is currently 10 years old, and she would receive it upon reaching 18 years of age.
