A massive Turkish-led humanitarian mission is set to benefit nearly 100,000 families across Mindanao for this year’s Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), marking one of the region’s largest food assistance campaigns to date.
The Turkish Filipino Friendship and Solidarity Association (TUFIFSA), led by Dr. Mehmet Rıza Derindağ, announced that around 1,000 cattle will be sacrificed for the annual Qurbani program.
The meat, along with rice and vegetables, will be distributed to impoverished and conflict-affected communities throughout Mindanao on Wednesday, May 27.
Founded in 2009, TUFIFSA has been a mainstay in humanitarian work, education, and community development across the Philippines.
Dr. Derindağ emphasized that the initiative goes beyond charity, aiming to foster peace, compassion, and stronger ties between Türkiye and the Philippines.
“Our mission is not only to deliver food. Our mission is to build bridges between hearts, cultures, and nations,” Dr. Derindağ said.
TUFIFSA President Sally Ann G. Tayaban stated that the organization continues to collaborate with prominent international humanitarian partners, including: Aziz Mahmud Hudayi Foundation, IHH Netherlands, Serhendi Australia and Çare Derneği.
Beyond holiday outreach, TUFIFSA’s broader initiatives encompass disaster response, Ramadan food aid, orphan support, educational assistance, and long-term community development.
Board member Angelo Uybaan, also known as Muhammad Easa, noted that the association has successfully established schools and educational programs in underserved communities from Luzon to Mindanao.
Dr. Derindağ added that the bond between Türkiye and the Philippines is expanding into trade, agriculture, halal industries, and manpower development, proving that humanitarian partnerships lay a strong foundation for economic and diplomatic relations.
As Eid al-Adha approaches, volunteers and community leaders are finalizing preparations for the large-scale distribution.
