Power transmission service provider reported a slight reduction in transmission charges reflected in consumers’ May 2026 electricity bills, driven by lower transmission wheeling and ancillary service (AS) rates.
Mae Roselle L. Curiano, government relations and regional affairs officer of NGCP’s Public Relations Department, said the overall average transmission rate for the April 2026 billing period declined by 8.80 percent to P1.5983 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), from PHP1.7526/kWh recorded in March.
The reduction was attributed to decreases in both transmission wheeling charges and AS rates, according to Curiano.
Transmission wheeling rates, or the fees charged by NGCP for delivering electricity through its grid, dropped by 14.16 percent to P0.6028/kWh from P0.7022/kWh in the previous billing period.
Meanwhile, average AS rates fell by 5.02 percent to P0.8088/kWh from PHP0.8516/kWh in March.
Ancillary services refer to support services sourced from the Reserve Market and providers with bilateral contracts with NGCP to help stabilize the power grid during supply-demand imbalances.
“For the May 2026 electric bill of end consumers, NGCP charges only 60 centavos per kWh for the delivery of its services,” the company said.
NGCP added that ancillary services continue to account for the bulk of transmission charges, stressing that it does not profit from AS rates since these are directly remitted to generating companies.
