Cong Corrales EVER wondered why every time this administration slips up or does a booboo, the congressional inquiries in both houses of Congress get more salacious, or the list in Digong Dada’s illegal drug matrix gets longer? I have wondered about it myself. I am seeing a pattern here. But then again, I have always been suspicious of people who claim they communicate directly to a deity. Last week, we witnessed in full color the live broadcast how our congressmen effortlessly displayed their misogyny. The questions ranged from frivolous to the ludicrous. Still, some were just outright dumb questions. It is beginning to show that the circus act in both houses of Congress that they don’t have anything substantial against Leila de Lima to connect her to the supposed near-narco state status of the illegal drug trade in the country. What I saw last week was a group of baboons throwing crap against the wall, and seeing which crap would stick. File a case! If there was anything proven at the congressional inquiries so far is that de Lima is like any woman who has biological needs for companionship and copulation and that our congressmen are salacious and horny. You know that kind of male--the oversexed but under lei’d kind. That last pun, I borrowed from Manang Rhona. As for us here in Cagayan de Oro, it came as no shock since we all know our representative is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Gone were the days when our representatives were the talk of Batasan Hills--for the good reasons (e.g. most laws passed, taking major roles in impeaching erring Presidents). On Monday morning, Digong Dada’s list of alleged narco-politicians got longer with the supposed inclusion of former Iligan congressman Vicente “Varf” Belmonte Jr. You remember, Belmonte? You know, he was the guy who almost died, and whose police close-in protection died, in an ambush near the Laguindingan Airport. Yes, that Belmonte. There’s also that incident where Digong Dada berated a British reporter who had the misfortune of asking about the extrajudicial killings in the continuing war on drugs. For all we know, that Briton was just asked by his editors to ask Digong Dada that question. I mean, that wasn’t personal. I saw the news video clip. It was hilarious. Digong Dada went into a tirade about how “hypocritical” for the US to be asking him about the killings. The reporter’s an British, chrissakes! Oh! Before I forget, it was around that week too that the peso slumped to its lowest in contemporary history. But what do I actually know. The finance consultants of Digong Dada say it’s not going to affect our economy. Yeah, right. Again, it might be that I just have a naturally suspicious mind. It has been with the other Presidents, mind you, because absolute power corrupts absolutely. But I maintain all this frivolous and ludicrous circus act are all just machinations to distract us to the main agenda. What that agenda are is the testimony of how good they have distracted us so far. In all these convoluted distractions, one thing is for sure--if you have shelved your critical thinking, then strap on your seatbelt and enjoy the ride, dummy.
