ADMITTING that he’s a “strict” leader, Misamis Oriental Governor Peter ‘Sr Pedro’ M. Unabia today, October 7 urged his constituents to vote straight for Paglaum party in the May 2025 elections to sustain his crusade and challenging fight against poverty.
Speaking before the Capitol employees and fellow candidates on Monday morning’s flag-raising ceremony shortly before their scheduled filing of Certificates of Candidacy at the nearby Provincial Commission on Elections Office, Unabia said his commitment to deliver effective public service has eventually made him a strict leader.
“I ask for an apology kay nigawas nga strict ko sa inyo, but that's because of my commitment to serving people well. We have been (allowed) to use government's fund but it comes with great responsibility,” said Unabia, declaring that performance is the best policy.
He cited incumbent El Salvador City Mayor Edgar Lignes as an example of a performing public servant.
“Gitabangan namo siyang Congressman Bambi Emano in the last election kontra sa among kandidato apan wala gyod namo mapildi kay siya matinud-anon sa pag serbisyo,” Unabia said.
The second-termer governor said the fight against hunger and poverty is a difficult one and that “we need conscience, compassion, competence, company, and commitment to address it.”
His son, First District Rep. Christian Unabia earlier reiterated the province’s unified goal to curb the poverty incidence into a single digit.
“Daghan pa kita buhaton sa probinsiya busa ihatag nato atong integrity, dignity ug honesty sa atong pag panerbisyo,” said the younger Unabia, whose youngest brother Joshua will challenge the so-called political legend in Balingasag, Alexis S. Quina for the mayoral post.
Second District Rep. Yevgeny Vincente ‘Bambi’ Emano, for his part, gave more emphasis on tourism and economic development, sharing his involvement with Governor Unabia and company in a highly ambitious project to convert the Laguindingan airport from domestic into an international one.
“Ato kining pangusgan kay puhon direct na atong biyahe from Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental to Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea ug uban pang mga dapit gawas sa nasod,” Emano said.
