THE armed man who disrupted a conference of human rights advocates on Masspec Bldg. on Tiano Bros. St. on Friday afternoon turned out to be a police officer, and he has threatened to sue Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) leaders for allegedly harassing him.
SPO3 Rolando Gomonit is a member of Regional Intelligence Unit, and serves as leader of city intelligence team. The IFI said Gamonit was caught spying on them, and that officers from the Police Station 1 later “seized” from him a 9mm pistol.
Gamonit, in a police blotter, said he went to Masspec to monitor and gather information relative to the upcoming martial law anniversary.
He alleged that he was manhandled–– “rammed” and “dragged” by IFI Bishop Felixberto Calang, Fr. Christopher Ablon, Bro. Mark Gavia, and three others even after he allegedly told them that he was a police officer. Fr. Ablon denied that Gomonit introduced himself as policeman.
“Nagpaila lang siya nga membro sa lumad pero wala siya mailhi sa lumad leaders inside,” Ablon said. Ablon said Gomonit was armed, asked people too many questions, and took photos of participants. He said his group would sue Gomonit.
