ILIGAN City — A surveillance operation turned into a deadly armed confrontation Wednesday night, leaving one suspect dead and a police intelligence officer wounded in Barangay Tambacan.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. at Purok 1. According to Iligan City Police Station 4 (ICPS4), intelligence operatives were conducting casing and surveillance operations targeting a wanted individual in the area when the shooting broke out.
Police said that as operatives entered an alley, they were suddenly fired upon by a male suspect, identified as a resident of Kiazar, Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte.
The suspect, armed with a firearm, shot one of the operatives, striking him on the left side of his forehead. despite the head wound, the officer managed to return fire, killing the suspect.
The operative sustained only a minor wound and was immediately brought to Mercy Hospital for treatment.
SOCO operatives responded to process the crime scene. Recovered items included an alleged .22 caliber revolver loaded with five rounds of ammunition, two keypad cellphones, a barangay residence identification card, an ice pick, and P200 in cash.
Police Station 4 is currently conducting a follow-up investigation to confirm the suspect’s identity and determine possible links to other criminal activities.
