CORRALES Associate Editor A COMMUNITY of three families who have been living in a resettlement project meant for Typhoon “Sendong” survivors have not only been cut off from the rest of the city--they still have no access to running water and electricity. The shelter project has 70 houses built on a slope of a hill. It is located in Kasaligan Village, Barangay Tuburan, this city. When this paper visited the village, the houses were already decrepit. This paper asked two of the residents there and found out that there are only three families residing in the village ever since it was finished years ago. The three families belong to the Higaonon tribe. “Until now, we still don’t have running water. We have to hike at least two kilometers to fetch water,” said Marilou Villaverde, one of the residents of the resettlement project. In the latest census of the Philippine Statistics Authority, Tuburan has a population of 1,395; Pigsag-an has 1,256; Pagalungan has 1,806 -- roughly 4,000 people have no access to running water in the city's hinterland barangays.
