CAGAYAN de Oro City 2nd District Rep Rufus Rodriguez has filed a bill seeking the establishment of a Sports complex to provide specialized training for youth athletes in the city.
Rodriguez through House Bill 1458 authorizes the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to construct the said complex which will consist of an air-conditioned gymnasium, a basketball court, and training centers for various sports.
The proposed sports complex shall also have a 10,000-person seating capacity, according to Rodriguez.
The construction of the said complex will be funded by the annual budget of the DPWH provided under the General Appropriations Act (GAA).
He said that the project will be appropriated in the amount of P500 million.
“The residents of Cagayan de Oro City should have a place where they can actively and safely participate in sports and other recreational activities. We envision having our own state-of-the-art sports complex with world-class facilities,” said Rodriguez adding that way will be able to train our athletes well for competitions here and abroad, particularly the Olympic Games.
“Sports benefit everyone, especially children. It helps them to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence. These are traits that are essential when they become adults become members of the workforce,” he added.
The bill is currently pending with the Committee on Youth and Sports Development.
