Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District has called on the city council to approve and even increase the budget being sought by Mayor Oscar Moreno for the city hall-owned JR Borja Memorial Hospital next year. Rodriguez issued the appeal on Friday even as he announced that the Department of Health (DOH) has already approved his request for P105 million for the city hospital, and another P20.4 million for additional health centers in the city. The appeal came two days before he announced he would be running for mayor. Rodriguez said the DOH also agreed to spend P105 million for the city hospital, and fund the construction of 11 health centers in the city’s 2nd District. He said the DOH fund for the city hospital would be used in acquiring more medical equipment, and in building more facilities. Rodriguez said the health centers would be built in upper Nazareth, upper Justo Ramonal, Camana-an, Balubal, Tablon, and Agusan, among others. But there is a condition, according to Rodriguez, and that is, the city hospital should be fully manned. He said the city council should approve the additional budget for the hospital so that city hall could ensure that its has a full staff. Rodriguez said the DOH also promised to give the city hospital a medical van or a “mobile hospital” as a bonus. “Kinahanglan na gyud nga approbahan  na  sa city council ang duhang pundo alang sa personnel services sa city hospital nga  gipangayo ni Mayor Moreno, kay kinsa man unya ang mag-operate sa atong mga medical equipment kon kulang ang atong mga doctors, nurses ug mga medical assistants?” Rodriguez pointed out.
