THERE is no doubt, a bandwagon is going the pink way.
As soon as it became clear many local officials are switching sides and those undecided coming out of their closets, the survey leader pushes the panic button.
They escalated red-tagging. Staged the hermit-like Cusi breakaway faction of the PDP to declare support. They tried to convince their ‘tatay’ to finally come out with a declaration of support for the candidate he described as weak and used cocaine. Escalated fake content and bashing on social media. And yes, released yet another static survey result by God-knows-who.
Upon confirmation that there is a bandwagon, I thought:
Walang solid north, walang solid south. Only one Filipino nation. What we are witnessing today and in the coming days is a testament of truth winning over false narratives. Given access to accurate information, people indubitably make informed and enlightened decisions. Truly, Leni Gerona Robredo is the unifying leader.
In the pink camp, when one claims support for Leni, it is presumed to include her vice presidential running mate Sen. Kiko Pangilinan. No adulteration.
At first, I thought of giving that RoSa or LeSa initiative the benefit of the doubt, part of the weaning stage of the Duterte regime. A withdrawal symptom sort of. That sooner than later, they would eventually buy into the whole Leni-Kiko package. But as the initiative further unfolded, it became clear that it is malicious and premeditated.
The fizzling out of the rally billed as the nationwide roll-out of the RoSa initiative here in Cagayan de Oro last March 21 was instructive. The low turnout of the rally organized by jet-setting political carper-baggers proved that the Leni-Kiko tandem is stronger than we thought. That people do not want to see any vestiges of this regime in the future.
Truly, ang angat ni Leni ay angat ni Kiko.
It is no surprise that Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oca Moreno was averse to the idea of having him partake in the optics for the RoSa initiative.
While he welcomes the support of warring local politicians for Leni, he does not want to be associated in any way to the RoSa initiative.
The senior statesman on this side of the country certainly knows what he stands for and where he stands. On October 23 last year, he surprised everyone when he ditched the political party that nominated him – ABAG PROMDI – to support the presidential run of Vice President Leni Gerona Robredo. He did so at a time when everyone thought doing so would be political suicide.
He started it all.
Having vice presidential candidate Sen. Kiko Pangilinan come to his proclamation rally at his hometown in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental last March 25 affirms his support for the whole package -- the Leni-Kiko tandem.
To Mayor Oca, RoSa is a trap. And the vice president better is careful diving into this tempting opportunity.
Moreno believes the Leni-Kiko tandem could win fair and square. Should the presidential daughter steal the no. 2 post on May 9, it should only be through her own merits and efforts. And none, nada, not even an iota of enabling from Leni.
Having a Sara vice presidency, Mayor Oca thought, would make a Leni presidency difficult. “Yes, Leni can win. But with Sara as her VP, it would be difficult for her to succeed.”
Victory, an election win, Moreno warned, is not synonymous with success. I hope the VP and the people around her listen.
