CAGAYAN de Oro’s Zhaoyu Capilitan and the Misamis Oriental pair of Mary Janelle Tan and Keith Adriane Ilar are installed among the solid picks to rule in the March 2023 edition of the Golden Chess Friends’ tourney for elementary, secondary, and college students in the locality.
This, after the three rising pawnpushers emerged champions in their respective age brackets during the 2023 National Age Group Chess Championship Eliminations held recently at the Tagaytay International Convention Center in Tagaytay City.
“Kining tulo lakip na sa karambola for the top honors kay dili basta-basta ilang pag-champion sa Tagaytay,” said Ben Wabe of the organizing Golden Chess Friends under the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Chess Association.
The youth-centered GCF event is slated side-by-side with the Mindanao Leg of the 4th National Executive Chess Championship on Saturday, March 25 on the 2nd Floor, Green Lane of the Limketkai Mall in Cagayan de Oro City.
Both tourneys, fully supported by Misamis Oriental Governor Peter M. Unabia and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando A. Uy, will be FIDE-rated or sanctioned by the world's governing chess body.
