By FROILAN GALLARDO Contributor LAS Nieves, Agusan del Norte--Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he is willing to face a military mutiny just to resume the stalled peace talks between the government and communist rebels. Duterte, a presidential aspirant,  said a successful peace agreement with the communist rebels would boost the country’s economic development in the country sides long mired by the 47 year-old insurgency. He said he have already expressed his desire to take the path of peace with the communist rebels with officials of the Armed Forces during a recent meeting. “If they do not like it, they can stage a mutiny but we cannot stay as a divided nation forever,” Duterte said. The late President Corazon Aquino also tried to talk peace with the communist rebels but was met with opposition from the military who staged at lease seven coups against her in the 80s. “If the military thinks they have a better solution, they can go ahead and take over the government but it will not succeed. The people and the international community will oppose it,” Duterte said. Duterte is known to be sympathetic to the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the New People’s Army. On Thursday just before 2015 ended, NPA rebels released an Army soldier they have taken as prisoner-of-war to Duterte and religious leaders in Barangay Durian, Las Nieves town in Agusan del Norte. Ricardo Manili of the NPA guerrilla Front 4A said the National Democratic Front Front released Army Corporal Adriano Bingil as “an act of good will “ for the resumption of the stalled peace talks. Bingil was captured by the rebels while driving a motorcycle in Barangay Mahagsay, San Luis town in Agusan del Sur last Sept. 19, 2015. Duterte reiterated his call NDF for a resumption of peace talks to the NDF leaders who was present during the release. Bishop Felixberto Calang of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente and convenor of the Philippine Ecumenical Peace Platform  supports the call to end the war. “The 47-year insurgency war has left death and destruction in the countryside and many of the casualties were innocent civilians,” Calang said.
