THE New People's Army (NPA) Northern Mindanao spokesperson Nicholas Marino on Wednesday morning accused the military of reckless firing and aerial bombardments in Malitbog, Bukidnon, causing alarm among residents.
Marino reported that military operations, which began following two clashes with NPA forces on April 27, have resulted in civilian casualties and displacement.
He claimed that aerial strikes and artillery support have destroyed properties in Sitio Patac, Linabo, and Bayawa, forcing residents to evacuate.
According to Marino, two soldiers were even killed in the first encounter on April 28.
In response, the military intensified its bombardment, reportedly endangering civilians and damaging the environment.
Marino described the military tactics as “reckless and indiscriminate,” alleging that they target suspected insurgent positions but also threaten innocent lives.
He called for an immediate halt to such operations, citing violations of human rights and civilian protection principles.
He reported the death of a civilian, Joel Dalunhay, and several others wounded during the shelling.
The area is now considered a “no man’s land,” with residents unable to return home due to ongoing military presence and danger.
The NPA called for a peaceful resolution, urging the government to reconsider its military approach and prioritize dialogue over violence.
Marino emphasized that continued military actions only escalate tensions and suffering among local communities.
