BALINGASAG, Misamis Oriental -- Police are working to identify the men who ganged up on the worker of a cable TV company in Balingasag town in Misamis Oriental, past midnight Monday. The victim’s head was smashed with a hollow block.
Maj. Cecilio Orcullo, Balingasag police chief, said the victim, 28-year-old Argie Tresquio of Pasil, Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro, succumbed due to head injuries hours later.

The attack on Tresquio, a leadman of the cable TV firm Parasat, was caught on CCTV camera installed near the crime scene on 15th de Septiembre St. corner Varquez St. in Barangay 1, Balingasag.
Orcullo said Tresquio was with his friends in a drinking binge at Baywalk, a popular seaside commercial area in Balingasag, before the attack.
Executive M/Sgt. Antonio Jesus Salvacion said Tresquio was on his way to his rented pad when his assailants, riding motorcycles, stopped him near Varquez Street. Police said the still-unidentified men subsequently took turns in throwing blows at the Tresquio.
One of his companions (name withheld for security reasons) told the police there were at least six men who attacked Tresquio.
He said he and the other companions of Tresquio ran off because they didn’t want to get harmed.
Beaten up and down on the ground, one of the suspects then took a concrete-filled hollow block and smashed Tresquio’s head with it. The killer then picked pieces of the hollow block and used these to finish off the helpless victim.
Tresquio was rushed to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital in Balingasag and later moved to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center where he died of head injuries hours later.
Orcullo said investigators were working on the case so that suspects could be identified and arrested.
