PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority Administrator Jose Gabriel ‘Pompee’ La Viña declared that there is a “60 percent” chance that he will run again for mayor in Cagayan de Oro City next year and a “40 percent” possibility that he’ll be retiring from public office.
La Viña made the pronouncement today during the distribution of lot accommodation of houses for people affected by the construction of the Integrated Steel Mill company.
He said he is now weighing things over and is now finishing his work, especially that the construction of the said Integrated Steel Mill will start this month.
He believes that running means to help and this steel mill company he’s working on is his way to help the people of Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro to land a job.
He added that his choice is either retirement or running as mayor.
La Viña claimed he has been listening to groups who have asked him to run through a signature campaign.
However, he has yet to complete his line-up with incumbent Councilor Jocelyn Rodriguez coming up on his list. He said the councilor has no problem with him since they are relatives.
“I am the one who will choose my vice mayor,” he said.
He also revealed that Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano will run as representative for the second district of the province.
La Viña said he still cannot divulge what party he will be running under. Last year, he ran under the PaDayon Pilipino party.
In an interview today, he said he will announce which party he will be joining but reiterated that “with or without a party,” he will still run for city mayor.
“There is only one destiny for each person. Wether there is a coalition or non mudagan ko. Magbutang mi ug kompleto nga ticket,” said La Viña.
