THE video glued me to the TV screen, for it was that of Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson. He began by saying that there was a “sabunutan” challenge issued to him by another senator. Though he said this mostly in Tagalog, I understood it to mean that it came from a statement by a presidential sister. Who else but Sen. Imee?
She claimed in an earlier video that during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee investigations, they were prevented from mentioning some names—specifically that of Speaker Martin Romualdez—in connection with the flood control scandal.
Lacson stated, “There’s nothing in my face that’s not mine.” His hair, eyes, and teeth were all his. No wig, no dentures. “Teeth are all mine,” he said.
He added that while he isn’t that “kagandahang lalaki” (handsome man), he is “macho,” much like his colleagues Tito Sotto and Gringo Honasan. Meaning, he is not gay. “If we’re not macho, then nobody is,” I understood him to say, speaking in mixed Tagalog and English. As an afterthought, he clarified that he is not against homosexuals; that is their choice, he said, and he respects it.
Lacson, the chair of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, said that the suppression of names in the investigations is simply “not true.” How could Imee say that when she has not been attending such investigations? “Noise is not evidence,” he said, adding that he wished she would attend the hearings.
He noted that this is an insult to the Committee, and Imee implies an insult to herself, for she too is a member of that Committee. If she would just attend and come up with the evidence. “I would even give her one hour,” he said.
It was learned that the Committee would resume investigations on the 19th of this month. Lacson also mentioned that Romualdez allegedly bought a house in a plush subdivision. He did not identify the source, but he said he had contacted the former owner of the house, and that person was willing to testify.
It was said in such “info” that Romualdez had bought the house in that gated community with the “help” of the Discayas. And we know what that means.
Ping also talked about Senator Bato dela Rosa. He suggested that since there is no warrant for him yet from the ICC, he should appear in the Senate. However, Lacson admitted, “I have no moral ascendancy to give Bato such kind of advice,” acknowledging that he himself made some disappearing acts in connection with similar circumstances. He didn’t give further details.
Relative to the purchase of big houses or mansions, I remember former Mayor Franklin M. Quijano here being reported to have purchased several such houses in different places in the country.
It was later proven untrue, of course. Yet, it somehow became a factor in his loss for a third term as mayor of this city of Iligan.
Now, about that wig thing, I remember a comment in a socmed post saying that if Marcoleta’s wig were placed on Bato’s head, they would look the same. I mean, their faces would look the same.
Oh my, I think the matter of wigs has become irrelevant. Though not necessarily less interesting to small minds like mine, ha ha ha. But this ain’t no laughing matter, I see.
