A petition for indirect contempt has been filed before the Supreme Court against the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament for allegedly failing to comply with a court order to enact a valid redistricting law.
Petitioner Zaoawi A. Buludan lodged the case on January 5, citing the BTA Parliament's inaction despite the Supreme Court's earlier ruling declaring Bangsamoro Autonomy Act (BAA) Nos. 58 and 77 unconstitutional.
The redistricting law is crucial for the March 31 parliamentary elections, and its absence raises concerns about the elections' legitimacy.
Buludan urged the Supreme Court to grant relief and expedite the case, citing the urgency of the matter.
However, Member of Parliament lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo rejected the allegations, calling the petition "political harassment" aimed at lawmakers who supported the redistricting bill.
Sinarimbo argued the petition is defective, targeting only a few lawmakers instead of the BTA Parliament as a collective body.
