By BEN SERRANO Correspondent SURIGAO City--The number of injured people in Sunday’s magnitude 5.9 aftershock here has reached 42 but most of them are outpatients, the Surigao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said. The management council said of the 42 people hurt, 37 were sent home after receiving treatment at the state-owned Caraga Regional Hospital, and the Surigao Medical Hospital. The council said one patient has been admitted to the Caraga Regional Hospital while three others were recuperating at the Surigao Medical Hospital after they were hit by falling debris. Meanwhile, many Surigaonons adversely affected by the Feb. 10 magnitude 6.7 earthquake and the Sunday aftershock appealed to the Surigao city government for help. Annette Villaces, city information officer, said some 30,000 people were affected. Those listed have houses that need to be repaired or rebuilt. “The Surigao city government has not decided yet on whether to give construction materials or just cash,” Villaces said. “The problem with giving construction materials is that some of these may sold to pay for labor.” Villaces said the local government’s financial resources are limited.
