BOXING icon Manny Pacquiao’s Los Angeles-based publicist and sportswriter Winchell Campos has assumed the role of coordinator for the “Dollar for the Presidency” Movement for Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. Inspired by the launching of the “Piso para sa Presidente” in the Philippines last week, Filipino-Americans in the US are grouping themselves to start the “Dollar for the Presidency” to convince Duterte to seek the presidency. “Many Filipinos in the US believe that the style of leadership and incorruptibility of Rody Duterte is what our country needs to bring back the days of glory,” said Campos. “Duterte inspires us, Filipinos, who are now working outside of the country.” Campos said his group hopes all bright and talented Filipinos now working overseas would be given the opportunity to come home and help rebuild the Philippines. Campos, originally from La Union, said prominent Filipino-Americans are linking up to show support for Duterte. “From California, we will move to other States with huge Filipino communities and get them to support Duterte not only with modest financial contributions but also to ask relatives back home in the Philippines to join the crusade for a better country,” he said. At least four other Filipino groups in California have started organizing the “Dollar for the Presidency” Movement. Campos said coordinators are now organizing in other Fil-Am communities like West Covina and Carson City.
