COTABATO City — More than a thousand runners gathered at the City’s Public Plaza on Sunday, Oct. 19, for the Central Mindanao leg of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) Karangalan Marathon 2025.
Now on its eighth year, the PMC Karangalan Marathon was held simultaneously nationwide for the first time, with participants running in Manila, Laoag, Palawan, Subic, Tawi-Tawi, and Cotabato City.
Runners competed in five race categories: 3.2, 5, 10, 21, and 42 kilometers.
Brig. Gen. Larry C. Batalla, commander of the 1st Marine Brigade, said the event was part of the PMC’s upcoming 75th anniversary celebration on Nov. 7, themed “75 Years of Service, Sacrifice, and Honor Above All.”
Batalla expressed his gratitude to all supporters of the marathon, noting that proceeds will help wounded soldiers and provide assistance to the families of fallen Marines.
“Una sa lahat, nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng sumuporta dito sa PMC Karangalan Marathon 2025. Ito ay in celebration sa aming 75th anniversary na magaganap nitong November 7. Ang buong Marine Corps ay nag-participate mula sa iba’t ibang lugar,” he said.
The event also drew participation from various local government units, non-governmental organizations, and private sector partners from Cotabato City, neighboring provinces in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and other parts of Mindanao.
