MORE than 100 passengers stranded at Macabalan Wharf and the passenger terminal in Cagayan de Oro City were provided with meals, according to City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD) head Nick Jabagat.
“Na atiman na sila this evening. They are mostly passengers from daily trips from Cagayan de Oro to nearby destinations,” Jabagat told Gold Star Daily in a phone interview, yesterday, Nov. 3.
Most of the stranded travelers were bound for Cebu and Bohol.
Cagayan de Oro remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 as Typhoon Tino approaches landfall early Monday morning.
Jabagat said current winds are at about 30 kilometers per hour (kph), lower than the earlier forecast of 39 to 61 kph.
He added that the CDRRMD continues to monitor the situation closely, especially along coastal areas.
“Water levels (in the river) are still at normal levels,” he said.
In an earlier interview, Jabagat noted that flash floods pose the city’s major hazard and reminded residents to keep emergency kits ready in case of flooding.
Meanwhile, Jenny Abuya, a Bohol resident working in an industrial office in Barangay Igpit, Opol, expressed concern that she might not be able to return to work on Tuesday as all trips to Cagayan de Oro remain suspended.
Abuya had traveled home to Bohol to visit her departed loved ones during the All Saints’ and All Souls’ holiday weeked and is among the passengers waiting for Typhoon Tino to pass.
