CAGAYAN de Oro's (CDO) Unified Sports and Traditional Karate Organization (USATKO) has made its mark at the recent Shureido 3rd International Karate Cup 2024 held in Manila, showcasing exceptional talent and skill on the global stage.
The team brought home various medals, solidifying their position as fierce competitors in the world of karate.
Among the standout performers for USATKO was Yeohan James F. Dacoco, a 12-13-year-old karateka who clinched the gold medal in the Kata category. Dacoco's impressive display of technique and precision earned him the top spot on the podium, highlighting his dedication and hard work in mastering the art of karate at a young age.
In the Kumite category, USATKO also shone bright with three bronze medalists making their mark in their respective weight divisions. Charlize James C. Santos in the +68kg 14-15 division, Niel Lloyd B. Sangrador in the -52kg 14-15 division, and Lleyton Andre C. Santos in the +68kg 16-17 division showcased their fighting spirit and determination, bringing home bronze medals for their exceptional performances.
Leading the charge for USATKO is Head Coach and USATKO President Jonnie A. Ocular, whose guidance and expertise have played a crucial role in shaping the team's success.
Alongside him is Assistant Coach Marc Carlo B. Sangrador, whose support and mentorship have been instrumental in the team's training and preparation for the international competition.
The 3rd Shureido Cup International Karate Championship 2024, held at the SM Mall of Asia's Music Hall, witnessed the participation of around 1,500 athletes from 13 countries.
This prestigious event marked the 60th Anniversary of the Association for the Advancement of Karatedo (AAK) and featured Kata and Kumite seminars conducted by world-class karatekas, providing a platform for athletes to enhance their skills and knowledge in the martial art.
USATKO's exceptional performance at the Shureido Cup is a testament to the team's dedication, perseverance, and passion for karate.
