CAGAYAN de Oro City government has launched a comprehensive training program for local farmers in Barangay Indahag, focusing on improved corn production techniques.
The Farmers Field School (FFS) is part of the city’s broader development initiative, CDO-Rise, under the leadership of Mayor Rolando Uy.
Spearheaded by the City Agricultural Productivity Operations Office (APOO) with technical support from the Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center-10 (ATI–Northern Mindanao), the 16-week training program began in June and is set to conclude in August.
The FFS provides a full-cycle curriculum on corn production, covering land preparation, planting, harvesting, and post-harvest processes. It also includes training in value-adding techniques to help farmers increase their income.
Engr. Paterno Gonzales, acting APOO department head, said the program is designed to equip farmers with modern skills and practical knowledge to improve productivity.
In addition to farming techniques, participants receive basic entrepreneurship training aimed at promoting sustainable farm management and opening opportunities for agribusiness ventures.
The initiative is expected to enhance agricultural productivity in Indahag and nearby barangays, contributing to local economic growth.
By empowering farmers with better methods, the city aims to build a more resilient and prosperous farming community.
The program’s launch was attended by ATI-10 representatives, APOO officials, barangay leaders, and participating farmers — highlighting a collective commitment to advancing local agriculture.
Farmers actively participated in hands-on learning sessions, gaining real-time experience in corn cultivation and post-harvest practices.
The training not only targets higher yields but also promotes sustainable and profitable farming.
The city government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local farmers through similar initiatives, emphasizing that strengthening agricultural skills is key to food security and economic development in Cagayan de Oro.
