WHAT ensued as a two-month-long Paglaum MisOr Rise-CDO Cup Volleyball Tournament ended up on March 8 at the Capitol grounds with guest teams Cagayan de Oro of Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy and City Sports Coordinator Romarey Gorro winning all the marbles in both the men and women’s categories.
In an awesome display of on-court talent and agility, the premier wards of Mayor Klarex Uy never dropped a single match right from the eliminations up to the playoff games en route to dominating the cash-rich tourney bankrolled by Governor Peter ‘Sr Pedro’ M. Unabia and the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental.
The CDO Gold volleybelles powered by Angela Compledo and Kate Seriña overpowered the Hanna Shayne Pansacala-led Gingoog in two-straight sets, 25-17, 25-19 in the women's final.
While their male counterparts, bannered by the unstoppable tandem of EJ Milvar and Nedrick Castigador, bested the CDO Green in the all-Cagayan de Oro men’s final.
Both champion teams received the P50,000 top purse plus trophies.
“Grabe kagahi kay nag-unay gyod sa men’s final ang CDO Gold ug CDO Green and ni-champion ang CDO Gold sa babae. Apil ang runner-up and top-four finish sa CDO Green’s men and women’s teams, around P140,000 sab ang na prempyo sa Cagayan de Oro in volleyball event alone,” said Capitol sports insider Zosimo Vicente Seriña-Tan-gan.
The CDO Gold and CDO Green both made it to the men’s final after handily defeating Magsaysay and Gingoog in their separate semifinal duels on Wednesday afternoon at the Pilgrim Christian College gym.
