WITH the Golden Chess Friends momentarily muting its monthly chess event comes the pre-fiesta team chess tourney of the city government.
Dubbed “1st Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy CDO-MisOr Fiesta Open Chess Team Tournament,” it will be held on August 26-27 at the Green Lane 2nd Floor of the Limketkai Mall.
Time control is 25 minutes with five seconds increment.
“Naay problema mismo sa National Chess Federation of the Philippines maong cool off sa atong monthly chess tourney. Of course, atong suportahan ang torneyo sa siyudad modula kitang tanan,” said the GCF’s founding head Benoni Wabe.
Lorenzo Cuizon, whose controversial suspension from the flawed national chess body had just been lifted, will officiate the two-day rapid chessfest that is free of registration fee.
“Problema na kana sa NCFP ang trust issue nila sa mga players sila man ang naa sa taas, basta padayon lang gihapon atong grassroots chess development sa countryside areas,” Cuizon told Gold Star Daily.
Cuizon will be assisted by deputy arbiter Aldwin Daculan and City Hall workers Alden Ranario and Jasper Gonzales in running the show.
Over P100,000 in total cash prizes will be up for grabs in the Cagayan de Oro LGU-backed tourney with the top-ten team winners out to get P30,000, P20,000, P16,000, P12,000, P10,000, P8,000, P7,000, P6,000, P5,000, and P4,000 each.
Eleventh placer will receive P3,000, while 12th and 13th finishers will be given P2,000 apiece.
The rest of the top-20 performers will settle for P1,000, respectively.
