FOR the first time, the recent Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental Fiesta Chess Team Tournament was held at the Limketkai Mall without a registration fee as ordered by Mayor Rolando Uy.
“Dagko atong premyo unya free ang tanang partisipante sa registration fee kay mao man ang kagustohan sa mayor,” said city sports coordinator Ruel ‘Wewe’ Daba.
According to arbiter Lorenzo ‘Jun’ Cuizon, the tournament also established a new record in attendance at 74 teams considered the biggest so far in chess events conducted in Northern Mindanao.
