THE local volleyball communities in Cagayan de Oro and the province of Misamis Oriental are so ecstatic by the success of homegrown spiker Gen Eslapor in the international arena.
Along with Dij Rodriguez, the duo was able to make it in the all-Pinay finals of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour held in Subic, Philippines, over the weekend.
Prior to the All-Filipino Championship, Sisi Rondina and Jovelyn Gonzaga decision Israel’s Yahli Ashush and Anita Dave, 20-22, 21-8, 17-15, while Eslapor and Rodriguez defeated Japan’s Miyu Sakamoto and Mayu Sawame, also in the deciding third set, 16-21, 28-26, 15-13, in the semifinals.
“We’re really proud of her. Gikan sa iyang pagka student athlete taking up management accounting sa UST, double time pa training para sa national team. Then recently, she won the UAAP Season 85 beach volleyball with her partner from Bukidnon Babylove Barbon. And, karon silver finish sa world tour,” said Kagay-anon Roschelle ‘Love-luv’ Labitad-Rameri, who nurtured the Opol native Lapore during her high school varsity days with the Angelicum Learning Centre in Cagayan de Oro.
Eslapor’s former coach Reynante ‘Bobong’ Rameri has suggested to Misamis Oriental Sports Coordinator Francis Sean Condeza to arrange a hero’s welcome for Eslapor and company with Governor Peter ‘Sr Pedro’ Unabia in time of the Provincial Capitol’s flag-raising ceremony either in December or early next year.
“I suggest nga dili lang si Eslapor apan tanan nga local volleyball players nga nag-excel sa national stage like Erika Raagas of Cagayan de Oro ug uban pa ang atong pahalipayan pinaagi sa recognization atubangon sa gobernador,” Rameri told Gold Star Daily.
