CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A total of 7,193 Kagay-anons received government assistance during the latest People's Day at the City Hall Quadrangle, giving residents easier access to essential public services in a single venue.
City Hall Chief of Staff Sheila Lumbatan said the strong turnout reflects Mayor Rolando "Klarex" Uy's continuing commitment to bringing government services closer to the people, especially those who need them most.
She said the People's Day program is a key component of the mayor's RISE Agenda, which stands for Regional Leadership; Accessibility and Connectivity; Inclusivity and Participatory Governance; Safety, Security and Human Development; and Economic Recovery.
According to Lumbatan, the agenda focuses on expanding government support, particularly for disadvantaged families and residents in hinterland barangays, by making public services more accessible and responsive.
"Mayor 'Klarex' Uy is making strides with his administration's People's Day program," Lumbatan said, adding that the initiative allows residents to raise concerns directly with government offices and receive the assistance they need.
In an earlier statement, Uy acknowledged that reducing poverty and responding to the needs of residents remain among his administration's biggest challenges.
"Much is expected and required of every City Hall department manager and their personnel to serve the public to the best of their capabilities," the mayor said.
Lumbatan said the mayor's directive underscores City Hall's commitment to ensuring that every resident receives the support they need.
Beyond delivering aid, she said People's Day has become a platform where residents can connect directly with government agencies, strengthening community participation while making public services more accessible.
She added that the program demonstrates how local governments can effectively reach underserved communities and bridge the gap between government services and the people who need them most, particularly those living in hinterland barangays.
