Rufus Rodriguez yesterday took back what he said about his plan to make his wife Fenina run for congresswoman in the 2nd District next year apparently to put an end to criticisms that his family was out to establish a political dynasty in the city. “After initial deliberation with other leaders, I decided that we will choose another person to replace me. Ang akong asawa walay hilig sa politika. Lisod nga ang modagan pagka-mayor iyang asawa maoy modagan pud pagka-kongresista. Mi-ingon si Nenen (Fenina) nga motabang lang siya kanako, dili elected,” he said. On Sunday morning, Rodriguez said his wife would run for Congess in the 2nd District in order to ensure the continuity of projects there. The announcement about his wife as his likely successor was greeted with raised brows by those against political dynasties. Rodriguez’s brother Maximo Jr. is the representative of the party-list Abante Mindanao (Abamin) while their sister Jocelyn is the barangay chairperson of Nazareth. Rodriguez said Jocelyn would not run for any position in the next elections. “Dili modagan sa local position si Bebot (Jocelyn). Naka-decide na ang family bisan city councilor dili siya modagan. Wala na kanang isyu sa political dynasty,” he said. Mayor Oscar Moreno earlier said Rodriguez’s sister could become his running mate but it depended on the Rodriguez family.
