Families living in Barangay Bugo, Cagayan de Oro, may soon experience quieter nights and safer roads after the City Council committee endorsed a proposed ordinance restricting heavy trucks from passing through residential areas late at night.
The measure aims to address long-standing complaints from residents about loud trucks causing sleepless nights, road damage, and safety risks inside subdivisions.
If approved, heavy vehicles will face restrictions during nighttime hours on selected residential roads in Barangay Bugo.
For many residents, the proposed ordinance could bring relief from constant noise and vibrations caused by large trucks using subdivision streets as shortcuts.
Officials also said limiting heavy vehicle traffic could help reduce road deterioration and lower the risk of accidents in residential areas, especially during low-visibility hours at night.
The Committee on Barangay Affairs endorsed the proposal during a hearing on July 1 led by Councilor Marlo Tabac, chairperson of the committee and Liga ng mga Barangay president.
The Bugo ordinance formed part of 11 barangay measures approved by the committee focusing on public safety, order, and community welfare.
City officials said the regulation also seeks to align barangay traffic rules with broader city standards on road safety and local governance.
The ordinance is still undergoing minor revisions, including the final schedule of truck restrictions and the list of affected roads, before it moves to final reading.
