The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is set to energize seven major transmission projects in 2026 as part of its continuing efforts to strengthen grid stability, reliability, and capacity nationwide.

Major NGCP projects for 2026

Among the projects targeted for completion this year are the Amlan–Dumaguete 138kV transmission line (P 1.9 billion), the Tuguegarao–Lal-lo (Magapit) 230kV transmission line (P 2.4 billion), and Stage 1 of the Tuy 500/230kV Substation, which includes the Tuy–Dasmariñas 500kV transmission component (P 8.1 billion). 

Also slated for completion are the Nabas–Caticlan–Boracay 138kV transmission line (P 4.2 billion), the Tacurong–Kalamansig 69kV transmission line (P 757.98 million), Stage 2 of the Visayas Substation Reliability Project, and the relocation of steel poles along the Hermosa–Duhat 230kV transmission line.

These initiatives are designed to support rising electricity demand, improve system security and power quality, accommodate new generating plants — including renewable energy sources — and complement major grid backbone and island interconnection projects.

In 2025, NGCP completed the upgrade and expansion of 14 substations to enhance grid performance. 

Major upgrades included the installation of a 1,000MVA transformer at the Castillejos Substation; new 300MVA transformers at the Calaca and Concepcion substations; 100MVA transformers at the Corella, Toril, Pitogo, Maramag, Dingle, Calbayog, and Paranas substations; a 150MVA transformer at the Davao Substation; and 50MVA transformers at the San Jose and Mabinay substations. 

A 100MVA expansion at the Iloilo Substation, part of the Panay–Guimaras Interconnection Project, was completed in April 2025.

Voltage improvement works were also carried out in the Tigaon, Malvar, Baybay Load-end Station, Sta. Barbara, and Zamboanga substations.

NGCP said these accomplishments underscore its commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable power transmission services. 

Despite ongoing right-of-way and permitting challenges, the company expressed optimism about completing the projects within schedule.

The company also renewed its appeal to the Department of Energy and local government units for faster processing and release of permits needed for critical transmission projects, stressing that government support is essential for timely implementation.
