FORMER Taglimao barangay chairman William Guialani asked me this question: Naunsa na man ang mga Cagayanons? This is in relation to the TROs issued by the Court of Appeals in favor of beleaguered Mayor Oscar Moreno.
I wish I could give him the best answer but I can’t. Let me just put it this way. Sometimes, we hate a person so much that it becomes an obsession to merely focus our attention on that hated person, totally ignoring what’s happening around us and near us. This is evident on social media, particularly on Facebook.
Many Cagayanons either hate or don’t like our President such that they seem to only see the President every day and anything bad about him ignoring the good things he has done.
Take the case of one Cagayanon who posted a Photoshopped picture of Duterte on top of a body of a woman. Yes, we don’t see him anymore. He has become a troll to hide his identity. He can hide his identity but not his style of writing. He is very much around. But like the others, he sees all evil about the President but is silent on the evils that exist in our city. They have become farsighted. They are capable of seeing things at a distance but not those near them.
So, where are the people who staged a rally against the PDAF? Where are the members of the church who rallied with them? Well, you can see them enjoying the fruits from a corrupt official while the rest couldn’t care less. Perhaps, Duterte is enough for them to bash and Moreno is one too many.
Guialani, like Antonio Nuñez, is disappointed. Guialani now sees the hands of not just our court, the DILG-10 but also the post office which he alleged has been withholding communications to benefit Moreno.
It’s not difficult to agree to his allegations. People aren’t dumb that they cannot understand what’s going on.
Guialani suggests presidential intervention to the extent of questioning the President’s advocacy for honest governance and fight against corruption. Either the President is being hoodwinked or he finds it less important for which he might lose his supporters’ trust here.

The trouble with some people is that they cannot learn to accept what they really are. No amount of deodorant or camouflage can hide who and what you really are. One cannot portray oneself as intelligent by depicting others as stupid. Nor can one present oneself as good by telling others that they are bad.
And there are those who love to accuse others with acts they themselves are guilty of as if their lives are not open books. “Ipahid sa uban ang kaugalingong binuhatan.” Well, if that is how they earn their keep, then they really are good at it.
One thing for sure, “Walay aso nga makumkum.”

After the committee hearing, I asked Engr. Nonito Oclarit of the Roads and Traffic Administration if we can undertake an operation against counter-flowing on the Maharlika Bridge. His reply gave me the impression that he is not so inclined to do it. Well, I guess he opts to wait for something to happen there one day. Sigh.
