IN what was supposed to be an apprehension by the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA) for a traffic violation resulted in a motorcycle falling down and crashing its driver and passengers.
Roldan Golosinda, a resident of Lapasan, was traveling with two companions along the intersection of JR Borja and Quirino streets when he encountered two bicycle-riding RTA enforcers crossing into his lane, separating to the left and the right in front of him.
He claimed that the two enforcers did not signal, and when he proceeded to go between them, his motorcycle got caught on the front wheel of the bicycle on his left.
Golosinda sustained minor injuries to his hand and knee, while no report was obtained on the condition of his passengers. His motorcycle sustained a broken side mirror and some gashes on the right side. He was issued a traffic ticket for violation of overloading and non-wearing of a helmet for his second passenger.
However, he plans to file a complaint against the two RTA enforcers for causing the accident, as he claims that his apprehension was conducted in a dangerous manner.
“Pwede ra man gud unta to nga ila ko parahon gikan sa kilid sa dalan, kay sa ingadto na ni counterflow sila ug ni harang na walay signal-signal sa ilang intensyon,” Golosinda said.
In a phone interview with James Andrade, the information officer of the RTA, he said they are still waiting for the driver to file his complaint in the RTA office.
He lamented the fact that a video of the incident has gone viral on social media, which does not completely capture the whole incident and might be cause for speculation.
“The incident is still under investigation,” he said.
He added that he wants to ask the motoring public that if they see RTA or police personnel flagging them down, they should comply to avoid accidents.
