VILLANUEVA, Misamis Oriental—It was a night of glamour and grace, but for Rexzil Paayas of Manticao, winning the Miss Kuyamis 2026 crown was about more than beauty — it was a platform to deliver a powerful message of unity and sustainable progress.
Besting 23 other candidates during the coronation night held in Villanueva, Paayas emerged as the new ambassador for Misamis Oriental, showcasing the province as a rising global destination.
In her winning moment, Paayas framed tourism not merely as an industry, but as a bridge for connection. She emphasized that tourism serves as a “language of peace,” capable of uniting diverse communities and transforming lives across the province.
A vision for ‘Bangon MisOr’
Paayas aligned her advocacy with the broader developmental goals of the province, urging her constituents to look beyond political or social divides.
“Our differences should not overshadow our collective vision to support the goals of the Bangon MisOr strategic direction of our Governor,” she said.
The pageant was the highlight of the annual Kuyamis Festival, a province-wide celebration of culture and heritage participated in by municipalities across Misamis Oriental. Paayas’ victory is seen as a pivotal moment to highlight the province’s potential to meet international standards in hospitality and culture.
Reviving communities
Doubling down on her advocacy, the newly crowned queen highlighted the human element of development.
“Tourism is not just about places; it is about reviving communities, empowering people, and moving Misamis Oriental forward,” Paayas added.
She expressed a firm commitment to using her reign to promote sustainable development, hoping to inspire residents to work together toward a common goal of peace and prosperity.
