EACH municipality in Misamis Oriental must establish a domestic waste treatment facility, according to ABC President and Provincial Board Member Robert de Lara.
The initiative, he said, aims to protect the environment and support agriculture by converting human waste into organic fertilizer.
De Lara highlighted Gingoog City as an example, where such facilities have already benefited local farmers by providing organic fertilizers.
“It’s a big help in protecting the environment,” De Lara said.
Kagawad Gremer Ramoga of Talisayan echoed this sentiment, stressing the health and environmental benefits of waste treatment facilities.
De Lara also emphasized that these facilities can treat waste liquids, converting septic tank and canal waste into fresh water.
He added that a proposed ordinance mandating all local governments to build septage and sewerage treatment plants is currently under review at the committee level.
Governor Peter Unabia has expressed his support and willingness to allocate funds for the project, De Lara said.
